Snorkeling Equipment

When considering the next trip you take to the beach or just out to your local pond, one of the things your might consider doing is snorkeling. In order to do this however, you need the proper snorkeling equipment. The equipment required is generally just two pieces and technically you could do without the first, but it will be included in this article because the majority of snorkelers wear it.

The first piece of snorkeling equipment is also a piece of regular diving equipment. It is the goggles. These glasses are typically made of rubber or a synthesized silicone material that make them flexible and response to your face. A good test to gage the quality of the goggles is to take them and place them on your face and inhale through your nose. If they stay on even if you place your head in a bowl of water, they are a good fit for your head and maintain a good seal.

The other piece of snorkeling equipment is the snorkel itself. This is generally a J or L shaped tube that is up to 40 centimeters long. Any longer than this and the pressure that is exerted on your lungs by the body of water will be greater than your capacity to inflate them meaning that although you may have the conduit to the air, you cannot breathe it. An increase in the volume of the tube also facilitates this problem and as such the tubes tend to be skinnier from about 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters of varying length.
